Feather stars are a group of crinoids that do not have stalks, reside in the ocean, typically in shallow, warm waters. Some species do, however, exist in colder waters and deeper areas.Over 500 species of feather stars exist in habitats ranging from the littoral zone to several thousands of meters in depth. They are related to echinoderms like sea urchins, starfish, and sea cucumbers.
